"Or perhaps under the beaten..." Detroit Off The Beaten Path Tip by SilverVelvet

Detroit Off The Beaten Path: 45 reviews and 49 photos

Or perhaps under the beaten path ... How about an Underground Railroad tour? Prior to 1865 during the days of slavery, Detroit was an important stop on The Underground Railroad because the city was the last stop before slaves could reach Canada. The system was neither underground nor a real railroad, but an organized system of abolitionists and sympathizers who had 'safe houses' to help escaped slaves travel from point to point. Customized group tours are available through the Detroit Historical Museum. Reservations required. 313. 833. 1805.
