If you want to do trekking in a beautiful area - go to Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary in the Nilgiri Hills, Kerala, South India. You will need permission from the forest ranger. I got in with the help from my guide, who fixed everything. I hear it can get problematic and take time to fix permission to enter. The sanctuary might also be closed in March/April due to dry weather and risk of forest fire.
I got a guide and went into the deep evergreen forest, through teak plantations. We saw a sloth bear at a 10 m range, majestic and powerful bison, elephants, hornbill (bird), sambal and spotted deer, yellow ratsnake, wild boar - accompanied by the djungly sound of the monkey called Nilgiri Langur, and the bird called Singer of the forest (sounded almost like a very happy human walking around whisteling). It was incredible waking up in the morning to the symphony of birds and the occasional monkey in a tree top above the hut. It was quiet, beautiful and so calm! An cool too, a relief from the hot plains of Tamil Nadu.
