"This recommendation came from..." Thailand Restaurant Tip by Livermore

Thailand Restaurants: 344 reviews and 255 photos

This recommendation came from the Lonely Planet guide book but it is also a good idea. Try eating at some of the finer hotel restaurants. There lunch prices are faily reasonable but the food can be world class. Most of the major hotels (Hilton, Sheraton, Oriental) have a lunch buffet that is worth the price.

I avoided the street vendors along Sukhumvit though my friends ate from these places. The sanitary conditions didn't look so good plus I tend to shy away from eating 'local' the first couple days of a long trip to get my stomach accustomed to the local food. So I ate thai food immediately but only in the better restaurants. Later in my trip I ate from street vendor stalls with no problem but only if it looked clean. You can see the difference.
Thai food is good, filling and inexpensive. Some sea foood can be a little pricey but on the whole you can eat like a king on a back packers budget.

Favorite Dish: Tom Yam Gai or any of the coconut soups. Spectacular.
