"Deacon Brodies Tavern" Lawnmarket Tip by hmacaroni

Lawnmarket, Edinburgh: 5 reviews and 4 photos

Deacon Brodie was the original Dr Jekyel and Mr Hyde.
He was a local dignitary who was famous for cabinet making . At night he was a womanising drunk who allegedly robbed people from the cabinets he had made using his own spare key. He was eventually caught and hunh in the gallows he himself had designed!
Robert Louis Stevenson wrote the famous book based on this story, but missed a great twist at the end- Deacon Brodie's friend claimed he could bring people back from the dead and he was given Brodies corpse which was never seen again!!!!

Enough of the history - great pub , good food and drink, reasonably priced and a great location in the heart of Old Edinburgh.
