Another extraordinary railyway trip is the 'Rhätische Bahn' from St-Moritz to Tirano/Italy. Starting in St-Moritz on an altitude of 1800 meters the train goes up to the Bernina pass, which has an altitude of 2328 meters and then down in the Val di Poschiavo to Tirano to an altitude of 350 meters!

The same up and downs with the languages: From the German-speaking St-Moritz you'll pass an Raetoromanian-speaking area and end up in the Italian-speaking area of Graubünden. A really beautiful trip, not only for railway fans!

The picture shows the Bernina pass with its Lago Bianco - the white lake (isn't it?). Arriving in Tirano you have two choices: Either you take the train back to St-Moritz, you'll have the wowh-effect again - or you go with the bus to Lugano in the South part of Switzerland. A nice trip which takes you through the grape-vines of Veltlin to the mild areas around Lago di Como back into Switzerland.
