Archbishop Markus Sittikus ordered the Italian architect, Santino Solari to build the Current building in 16th century, after the old one was completely destroyed in a fire. It is different from other Baroque buildings in the area: Open area otside Bright colores and very large windows are unusuall for a cold cloudy city. Standing at Festung u can see that the building is in the form of a cross.
Late renaissance building with baroque influence.
the largest baroque fountain outside Italy is located there, outside the cathedral.

Directions: In the heart of the Old City - you can see the steeples from all over Salzburg
