The picture above was taken at one of the restaurants we dined at. It is a troglydite dwelling that was converted into a hotel/restaurant. I thought it was pretty cool!

Favorite Dish: TUNISIAN CUISINE I tried many different dishes throughout my stay in Tunisia,although while traveling in the South ,I was with a small tour and we ate at restaurants aimed at tourists. All the food,they served us was 'Tunisian Food' but I am sure some of the dishes were made a little tamer and less spicy for us. Some of the foods I tried were BRIK(a pastry filled with egg,herbs and sometimes tuna) BREAD SERVED WITH HARISSA SAUCE ( a red,hot paste made of chilies, the harissa we were served was not exceptionally hot, I wanted to try the REALLY hot stuff!)TUNISIAN SALAD(onions,tomatoes,peppers,olive oil,herbs)COUCOUS( tiny semolina pasta that can be served many different ways, sometimes with saffron and usually with vegetables),BAKLAVA( similiar to the Greek type),MAKROUDH ( syrup soaked honey cake with a date in the middle) The FRESH WATERMELON was very sweet and delicious and seemed to be quite common all over Tunisia. I was told that many people will grow watermelon between their olive trees. MINT TEA is served after every meal. It is very good, but way too sweet.I also had it served with pinenuts, very good. Be careful though because sometimes the glass they serve it to you in can be very hot!
Besides all the wonderful Tunisian pastries, FRENCH PATISSERIES are extremely common offering all kinds of delectable treats.
