"County Down has everything to..." Belfast Off The Beaten Path Tip by oneonta_ni
Belfast Off The Beaten Path: 70 reviews and 68 photos
County Down has everything to offer the visitor. If you are headed to the seaside, Holywood has a nice beach to walk along. Further along the coast is Kilclief which has a nice secluded beach near a 16th century castle (see photo below). The house next to the castle was once owned by the Flynn family and was where a young Errol spent his youth. County Down has loads of these tower houses. Walking around Castle Ward one day I counted 7 of them - and that was just what I could see from there! Some are open to the public on a regular basis (like Audley's), some are privately owned (such as the one in the village of Strangford) and some need are only opened by arrangement with the DOE (such as Kilclief).
