"If you're visiting the Ring of..." Europe Things to Do Tip by ViolinGirl

Europe Things to Do: 1,313 reviews and 2,177 photos

If you're visiting the Ring of Kerry on the western coast of Ireland, take a break from the tourist circuit by visiting the island of Skellig Michael.
On Skellig Michael, you can hike up an ancient stone stairway to the site of a 1,000 year old Christian monastery with stone 'beehive' huts perched atop an incredibly inhospitable island. The boat ride can be choppy (the island is 8 miles or so off the mainland), but it's a fascinating trip.

Directions: North Atlantic, off the west coast of Ireland(near the Ring of Kerry). Catch a boat from the mainland--inquire in Ballinskelligs
