"Just about everything in..." Belfast Off The Beaten Path Tip by oneonta_ni

Belfast Off The Beaten Path: 54 reviews and 55 photos

Just about everything in Northern Ireland is off the beaten path. One suggestion is the Linen Museum in Lisburn. Lisburn is very close to Belfast and has a long history in the linen industry.

If you are like me and have a fascination of ancient stone carvings, these abound in Northern Ireland. Most are not well signposted and you will have to get good directions. One of my favourite places is the cemetary on Boa Island where you can find the pre-Christian Lusty Man and a janus figure. Not far away is White Island and collection of carved figures. I can give directions to anyone who is interested in these places.

Below is a picture of the carvings in the monastary of White Island. Nobody is sure who carved them or why they left the island, but they date back to the early Christian period.
