Restaurante à Mineira: "Come on, baby, light my fire..." A Mineira Tip by b1bob
A Mineira, Rio de Janeiro: 2 reviews and 3 photos
On leaving the airport at my return from Buenos Aires, Alexandre took us to Restaurante à Mineira in the suburb of Caxias. It is a self-service restaurant with a salad and everything you could imagine including boiled quail eggs. On the second trip, I had a feijoada (rice with a lot of beans seasoned with pork and garnished by turnip greens and a slice of orange), chicken liver, and fish. I had two tins of Guaraná (of the Antarctica variety) to wash it all down. The hot food bar, instead of being electric, was heated by a wood burning open fire. It came up a cloud in the middle of lunch and a restaurant employee took an umbrella from one of the outdoor tables and walked folks to their cars. It was a nice gesture, but with thunder and lightning, I didn't want to be close to a metal pole. Besides that, Alexandre parked the silver VW under a tree.
Address: Caixa, just north of Rio de Janeiro.
