<BR>A royal monastery served as seat of the Sangaraja (head of the Buddhist monks of the Kamavasi Sect), Wat Mahathat used to house the Buddha image made of green stone in the form of Buddha seated on a throne. The image has since been moved to Wat Naphrameru.
