In 1997, we took the guided inside White House tour -- this is a picture from the 'back' entrance, where the tours congregate.
While of course the President's private residence was off limits to the tour, we saw many famous rooms on this guided tour.

However, once again, 9/11 changed things. Individuals can no longer tour the White House...only groups of 10 or more, arranged at least a month in advance. Worth it if you're bringing a school group or are on a large family/friend excursion, but thanks to the terrorists, the rest of us aren't likely to see the inside of the White House anytime soon.
