King Ludwig II decided to replicate Versailles, but only managed a small portion of it before he ran out of money. Even at that disappointment, there are French gardens, a big hall of mirrors, and a state room where they held classical concerts. The palace is located on Herren Island on Chiemsee Lake. Those must have been strong mirrors too because I looked into a lot of them and none of them broke. There is a ferry service that takes from the mainland to the island palace and back. Don't take the wrong ferry, folks, or you're liable to end up on some other island.

Address: Just southeast of Munich.
