"I wouldn't recommend taking..." Common Sense Advice / Sketchy Neighborhoods Tip by londonlover
Common Sense Advice / Sketchy Neighborhoods, Chicago: 50 reviews and 16 photos
If you're traveling alone (especially if female), I wouldn't recommenda taking the El (the elevated train) around certain parts of town at night. But the Metra rail system into Chicago is fine 24-7, and very convenient.
Also, don't believe all the stuff about Chicago being a gangster town--the reputation is extremely outdated! Chicago is one of the cleanest and friendliest big cities I know of. But don't stray too far south of the Loop without knowing what you're doing--it can get very dangerous, very quickly! And watch out for our crazy cabbies--they have very little regard for pedestrians and don't understand the concept of pedestrians having the right of way. :)
