"French Quarter" French Quarter Tip by travelmad478

French Quarter, New Orleans: 55 reviews and 93 photos

If you're like me, you'll appreciate the French Quarter a lot more during the day than at night. I prefer gazing at buildings to staring into a beer cup. The Quarter and the nearby Fauborg Marigny are fascinating from an architectural point of view. Wander around for a few days, take in the sights, and make sure to get some good cafe breaks in.

At night, the Quarter--especially Bourbon Street--can range from crowded and loud to swarming and deafening. The one night that this was really a lot of fun for me was on Halloween, when the parade of fantastically crazy costumes made it all worthwhile. (By the way, there is a straight end and a gay end of Bourbon Street...I found the gay end to be a lot more fun and the costumes way more inventive!) If you're a big partyer, you'll love it here. If you're not, there are plenty of other evening options in N.O.
