"Ruin" Nijmegen Things to Do Tip by sim1

Nijmegen Things to Do: 191 reviews and 222 photos

All that is left on this spot are two chapels from a castle. This is the first of them, not much more than a ruin.

The emporor Frederick Barberossa built a castle on this hill in 1155. In its construction, materials were used from the castle of Charlemagne which stood on this exact same spot. In 1796 The Valkenhof was sold by the province to be used as building material. All that was saved were the two chaples from the castle.

This semi-circular ruin was part of the chapel of St-Martin.
