Inside the Cupola of St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican

Another highlight of a visit to The Vatican is a visit to the St.Peter's Basilica or San Pietro. This church is absolutely amazing. I couldn't believe my eyes how huge this place is. But it is probably no wonder I felt like that, because it is the the largest church ever built in he world.

The construction of the San Pietro started in 1506 and the church was finished in 1626. In the photo you can see the inside of the dome. The dome or cupola was designed by Michelangelo. This dome is so impressive, as well on the inside, as on the outside. The dome is built as a double dome of brick. It is an impressive 42.3 metres in interior diameter (almost as large as the Pantheon) and it is 120 metres high.
