Inside the Shugakuin Imperial Villa in Kyoto
by mole333

The number one place to see in Japan is the city of Kyoto. This was one of Japan's old capitals and it has thousands of Buddhist temples, Shinto shrines, an Imperial palace and two Imperial Villas. The Southern half is fairly built up with lots of shopping and financial areas, while the Northern half is quieter, cheaper and more rural-feeling. Near where I lived in Northern Kyoto (Ichijo-ji area)were many rice paddies and even a pig farm. If you only visit one place in Japan, make it Kyoto. I spent a year there and it wasn't enough!
