The white and black marble Cathedral, was built 1063-1170 by Buscheto, Rainaldo and sculptor Guglielmo. It set the model for Pisa's distinctive Romanesque style, with Byzantine and Muslim influences. Like the Campanile and many other buildings in the area it is tilting.
The Bronze doors of the main entrance were designed by Giovanni da Bologna in 1602.
The fire of 1595 distroyed most of the original interior except the Gothic pulpit by Giovanni Pisan
