"The Luxor Hotel" The Luxor Hotel Tip by IreneMcKay
The Luxor Hotel, Las Vegas: 1 reviews and 5 photos
The Luxor Hotel was the first of the big, glitzy hotels that we visited that I really, really liked. It is shaped like a pyramid and has a huge model of a sphinx outside it. You can get off the tram that runs from the Excalibur to the Mandalay Bay to see the sphinx, but there is an even better view from the road outside and you can see several Egyptian god statues there, too.
Inside the hotel of course there is a huge casino, shops and restaurants. There is also a theatre staging something called the Titanic Experience which you can pay to see. This would probably have been interesting. We did not go, but I did wander around the Titanic Experience gift shop which was also quite interesting.
The Egyptian theme is continued inside the Luxor hotel with hieroglyph wall paintings and sphinxes and other Egyptian things.
At night the sky beam - the strongest beam of light in the world is projected from the top of the hotel. This light comes from 39 individual 7,000 watt bulbs located in a room about fifty feet below the top point of the Luxor's pyramid. There are rumours it can be seen from space, but this is apparently untrue.
