Ávila de los Caballeros Things to Do: 71 reviews and 154 photos

Northern panel of the San Vicente, Santa Sabina and Santa Cristeta Sepulcher is decorated with bas-relief showing the scenes of their lives and martyrdom. From left to right we can see Saint Vincent forcibly taken before the Roman Official Dacian. In spite of threats Vincent refuses to offer homage to Roman god Jupiter. Firmness of his refusal and his faith leaves a mark on the stone. His sisters Sabina and Cristeta plead him at least to try to escape. Then you see the scenes where Dacian sends men at arms to arrest Vincent and his sisters. Roman warrior shown as man at arms of XII century kisses a hand of Dacian and second warrior extends the reins to first one. Then you see Vincent and his sisters mounted on horses, they are leaving Evora and heading to Avila. These panels are invaluable source on the XII century fashion and appearance of Castilian men at arms.
