Memorial to the Rosenbergs
Julius and Ehtel Rosenberg were a Jewish American couple arrested for conspiracy to commit espionage in 1950. They were accused of selling secrets about the atomic bomb to the Soviet Union. They went to trial on these charges, were found guilty and executed in 1953, leaving two young children, Michael age 10 and Robert age 6. Many people believe that the Rosenbergs were innocent and were the victims of anti-semitism, cold war hysteria and McCarthism. The Cubans consider them to be martyrs and created the only memorial to them in the world.
