Tanzania Off The Beaten Path: 47 reviews and 62 photos

Our whole trip was a bit 'off the beaten path', since we stayed in a small village in the middle of nowhere with my in-laws for the greater part of our holiday. For those who come to see the great gamereserves or Kilimanjaro and who maybe stay in Dar for one or two days: it could be worth your while to visit the National Museum or the Botanical garden. Admission to the garden is free. Mpwapwa comes to mind as a very special place: visit the New Hafuns Hotel and order a green softdrink called Fahari: you can imagine yourself following in the footsteps of the famous explorer Stanley, who visited this place (the town, that is, not the hotel!) in 1874...

Have a closer look at the map, it shows the route that Stanley took, as well as the location of Mpwapwa ; I copied it from an old schoolbook
