"Saint Panteleon Church. Chapel of Epistles." Top 5 Page for this destination Churches Tip by Oleg_D.

Churches, Cologne: 60 reviews and 203 photos

At the Chapel of Epistles dedicated to saint Panteleon, on the right hand side from high altar I found two effigies from the tombs of two knights. Both knights are shown in full plate armor known as Gothic Armor of German type. Such armors were typical for second part of XV century. It was great success because no more that fifteen full suits of such armors survived till nowadays in museums and private collections throughout the world and any other source of information like these effigies is invaluable. They are silent witnesses of the epoch! Unfortunately the names of these knights are unknown although knight from the left side has the Order of Golden Fleece on his collar chain. It was one of the oldest European Order founded by Philip the Good the Duke of Burgundy. It makes my task of identification little bit easier. If anybody has any information on those effigies, please don’t hesitate to contact me. There is also altarpiece dedicated to the Passions of Christ with the Icon of Saint Panteleon.
