<FONT COLOR=PURPLE><b>THE HIGHEST POINT IN AUSTRIA IS GROSS GLOCKNER. ELEVATION: 12,460 FEET (3798 METERS). HERE IS AN EXCERPT FROM A SUMMIT LOG TAKEN FROM THE NET: In the morning the weather looked great. The sun was shining and there was not a single cloud in the blue sky. The Grossglockner's east face was already orange (because the sun was illuminating it). When we reached the height of about 3000m, that was around 9.00 am, clouds started to disfigure the blue sky above us.

We continued our walk on the ridge and just about 100 metres to the Erzherzog Johann Hut, at 3454m, there came clouds and wind. Wind was so strong that I often had to walk close-by large rocks not to be thrown over the ridge. I then again waited for them in Erzherzog Johann Hut and then we started our summit attempt 'together'. I again left them behind, so I reached the summit at around 1.00 pm. and the weather was roaring around. There was a white-out.
