"My favorite place has to..." Malaysia Favorite Tip by Beefy_SAFC

Malaysia General: 326 reviews and 270 photos

Favorite thing: My favorite place has to Sepilok Orang-utan Rehabilitation Centre near Sandakan in Sabah. Another key moment had to be the Iban Longhouses in Sarawak. As for other places, well, the Kinabatangan River and Gomantong Cave, both in Sabah were pretty special. Sarawak Cultural Village and the Cat Exhibition in Kuching (which means 'Cat City') were also worth a visit.

Fondest memory: Already said it, the Orang-utans in Sepilok - go straight to http:// for all my Orang-utan photos and prepare for an overdose of cuteness.

Now for the funnies, overshadowed by the Oran-Utangs, naturally...

* A mosque in Kota Kinabalu and it has a cash machine on the front. Would this be seen on Middle Eastern Mosques? (Note to Moslems - no offence intended.)

* Two businesses in Sandakan called Soon Fatt and one possibly was a restaurant (not sure). The name probably means something completely different in Chinese, it's just how it comes across to an English speaker.

* Also near Sandakan is the giant Gomantong Cave full of bats and swifts, where 'Birds' Nest Soup' originated. I've never eaten 'Birds' Nest Soup' and I don't think I'm likely to - the birds' nests that are collected by the locals and later sold as a delicacy particularly to the Chinese, are made by the swifts using mainly their own saliva. * By the way, the picture is a Rafflesia, the largest flowering plant in the world. * Beefy at
