Buddy Holly Center, Lubbock: 6 reviews and 10 photos
If you are a music fan, or even if you are not, the Buddy Holly Center is worth a stop. The center preserves the music of Lubbock and West Texas in general and Buddy Holly specifically. Many people, including me, consider Holly a very important influence in American music whose career was cut tragically short by a plane crash in 1959. There are three galleries here along with a nice courtyard and a gift shop. I enjoyed the memorabilia on Holly. Hours are 10 AM to 5 PM Tuesday through Saturday and 1 PM to 5 PM on Sunday. It is closed on Mondays. Admission is $5 for adults; $3 for sniors (60 and up); $2 for kids 7 to 17 and college students with ID; and free for kids under 7 and active duty military in uniform. The admission fee for this museum will also allow entrance to the Silent Wings Museum (on the same day).
The building the center is in is of interest too. The center is located in the old Fort Worth and Denver Railroad Depot built in 1928 using the Spanish Renaissance Revival style of architecture. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
