Toulouse Lautrec Room at Hotel Le Sisley

The hotel Le Sisley is a budget hotel in a great location in central Rouen.

The hotel is just a couple of minutes walk from the Musée des Beaux-Arts which is full of impressionist paintings. If you are really keen on impressionist art then this is the hotel for you as each room is named after an impressionist artist and individually decorated to evoke the artist and their work.

The building itself is full of character... and stairs. There are no lifts and so if your room is up on the 3rd floor then it's quite a journey up there after a hard day of sightseeing, but the twisty, creaky old wooden staircase was a real part of the character of this old building. The rooms are well cleaned, but there is some wear and tear showing in places. Perhaps you need to expect that in such an old building?

The hotel seems to be a family run business and all the staff I met seemed very friendly. At times the reception is not staffed and you have a code to enter on the keypad outside to gain access at these times. Breakfast is €7.50 per day and is reasonably good value since you get a good filling breakfast for this. It's a very french affair of fresh bread, croissants, strong coffee, fruit salad yogurt.

This isn't in any way a luxury hotel, but it is a great choice for those on a budget who are looking for something with a little bit more local charm.
