This watchtower was built in 1650 on Gozo during the reign of 'Grand Master of the Knights of Malta Juan de Lascaris-Casteller'.It is now the oldest free standing watchtower on Gozo. The tower's purpose was to give warning of pirates.Currently the local council and the National trust of Malta are restoring the tower, while sharing the expenses equally.Recently ten interpretation panels were prepared for installation, there are many salt pans beneath the tower.
