"Istiqlal Mosque" Sarajevo Things to Do Tip by Jetgirly

Sarajevo Things to Do: 497 reviews and 1,048 photos

As luck would have it I chanced upon the Istiqlal Mosque just as services were letting out, meaning I had to lurk around the entrance for half an hour before I could get any decent photos of the building. Architecturally it was obviously very different than the other mosques I'd seen in North America and Europe, and further research revealed that it is the city's newest mosque and was a gift from Indonesia. Heavily Muslim as well, Indonesia was one of the first nations to recognize an independent Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Directions: West of city center.
