The Pitti Palace and the Boboli gardens behind it contain some of Florence's most important museums. Unfortunately, the day we were there it was raining so we trapsed around the gardens with our umbrellas in the mud.

On the first floor of the Palace is the Palatine Gallery. On the ground floor and mezzanine is hte the Silver Museum ('degli Argenti'). The Gallery of Modern Art is on the top floor. The Costume Gallery can be found in the Palazzina Meridiana.

On the upper slopes of the Boboli gardens, you can find the Palazzina del Cavaliere (the Porcelain Museum).

The Boboli Gardens contains fountains, grottoes and shady walks. The gardens are home to local cats and are perfect for sun-drenched picnics. Visitors are advised to crack open the Chianti, unwrap the salami and slip back into the Middle Ages (the views from the gardens include the hills of Florence).
