The Goetheturm is really quite something: 41m tall and made entirely from wood. The views from the top, looking west towards the Frankfurt skyline, are possibly the best in the city. Unfortunately its timber is the cause of its current trauma. The wood is rotting and has made the structure unsafe. They need to modernize the tower, but the cost is estimated at a quarter of a million euros. It is currently scheduled to reopen this summer of 2012, but I visited in July and it was still closed.
If you are in Sachsenhausen it's worth a visit for the park and to see the tower, but don't go out of your way until they re-open it.
Directions: Outside the city. Take Bus 48 from Sudbahnhof.
