Leitchfield is a town of about 6700 located just west of the center of the state on the western edge of Kentucky coal country. The town was named for Major David Leitch who owned the land where the town was organized. Leitchfield is the county seat of Grayson County. The county was named for William Grayson a Revolutionary War Colonel and Virginia politician. Grayson county is a "dry county" (meaning the sale of alochol is prohibited) but in 2010 a law was passed allowing "limited" sale of alcohol in selected restaurants.
