Aruns: "Out of this World Gourmet Thai" Arun's: Tip by TRimer
Arun's:, Chicago: 2 reviews and 2 photos
In an out of the way section of Chicago, you will find this intimate restaurant. The interior is enhanced by displayed traditional Thai artwork and the lighting is soft. Mirrors are used to accent the décor. The restaurant has lots of nooks to make the dining experience more intimate. Still, it is relaxed and not as formal or stuffy as other top restaurants in Chicago (i.e. Ambria).
Open for dinner only.
Favorite Dish: Forget every other Thai meal you've ever had- dinner at Arun's is a thoroughly unique experience. It is four-star dining!! My parents, who are NYC foodies, are willing to fly their friends into Chicago to eat here.
Arun's chef's design menu (your sole option) is a 12-course dining adventure ($85) that will change the way you think about Thai food. You will not be presented with a menu. Just tell your waiter your food and spiciness preferences and they will prepare each dish to your liking. The meal with start with six appetizers served one at a time, each a perfectly presented treasure. Next is four entrees followed by two desserts.
As I was with my parents at Aruns, my dad ordered the wine. We got a Riesling, which I normally don't like, but it went great with the Thai food. Their wine list is recognized by Wine Spectator so there is a lot to choose from.
