When you drive on Route 38, in the Ella Valley, there are several boutique wineries and beer breweries you can visit on the way.

The group of colleagues I was travelling with arranged to visit "Abir Ha-Ella" Beer Brewery in the village of Tzafririm. Aram and Bat-Sheva, the owners were waiting for us. Plastic chairs were arranged in the shade, and Aram explained how he brewed beer in his basement, a business he started in 2008.

He showed us the malt and hops he was using, and the various spices which make his beers special.

We sampled two kinds of beer. One was very spicy, with a strong taste of chili peppers. My favorite was "Deep Soul", a strong, pale Belgian Ale with 7% alcohol, containing silan date syrup, toffee and caramel among its flavors.
The beers are there for sale (ask for special group prices), along with home-made lemoncello and some liqueurs, and goat cheese as well.
