Visit a tobacco factory. A little known fact is that all the big name cigars are made at the same factories. They decide what brand it will be by the quality of ingredients used and the tightness of the roll. Most of the cigar names come from famous novels (as part of the Fidel program, all factories have daily literature readings) - e.g. Monte Cristo (from the count)and Romeo & Julieta.

It is fastinating yet sad to see the women making the cigars. Most don't make enough in wages so they are forced to beg for change from tourists so be prepared.

For those who visit Cuba from the US with a Visa, you are allowed to bring $100 of goods back with you - this includes cigars.

Most of the factories are in the Pinar del Rio area of the country. You can see the fields and the drying huts along the side of the road.

Most tours are booked through travel agencies and Havana hotels, although the cigar shops in the Partagas and La Corona factories may also organize visits for VIP customers.
