"Gamla Stan is a must" Gamla Stan (The Old Town) Tip by barcodex

Gamla Stan (The Old Town), Stockholm: 39 reviews and 44 photos

Favorite thing: "Gamla Stan" stands for "Old City" in Swedish. It is really an oldest part of Stockholm. Narrow streets full of tourist shops and expensive restaruants if you don't pay enough attention to the houses around you. Look above the shops, and you can find a lot of interestings, like canon balls in the walls of houses, for example. Some houses are built right on a ancient city wall, so you can touch red bricks being inside a boutique!
It's very simple task to locate Gamla Stan. It is a separate island right in the center of the city, and you will easily see it on any map of Stockholm you will have chance to look at. If you haven't - ask anyone on the street. If nobody's around, you can also try to look at signs on the streets. If you will not find a pointer to Gamla Stan, you can try to find pointers to Sergels Torg or Kungsholmen - follow them and you will be rewarded by the correct sign soon.

Fondest memory: Panorama of Gamla Stan from the Gondola at Slussen. (Photos coming soon)
