That this site was the one where the battle occurred was once the subject of much conjecture. Many other sites were proposed as well as this one, all guided by Caesar's description. However, with each passing year, more and more evidence has been unearthed to the point where it is incontrovertable that this was the site.
Coins, artifacts, attack and defensive weapons and even Lidar (using lasar from aircraft) has been utilized to the point where this is the only place where everything matches up; so much so, they built the museum here!
The focal point was the high place (oppidum) which is where nearby Alise-Sainte-Reine is located these days. It was on these heights that Caesar collared the 80,000 Gauls by surrounding the place with a series of forts.
