Most restaurants will have at least a couple of these local foods, but some (like surubi) are not always available. Particularly if you are not near a river where they catch them. Paraguayan food is not known for being overly complicated with flavors, so if you don't like spicy foods then don't worry, you can eat everything in Paraguay.

Favorite Dish: 1-Chipa, round corn bread with cheese. There are two types, one with fresh corn and one with cornmeal. I prefer the fresh corn style, quite delicious. (see second photo)
2-Cipa so,o or chipa with meat.
3-Paraguayan empanadas.
4-Surubi is enormous river cat fish, served on your plate like a steak. For some reason, Paraguayans often put cheese on top of fish. (see first photo)
5-Asado, or grilled meat is a must. Be warned that Paraguayan cattle are often four years old when sent to slaughter, so it is tougher and gamier than Argentine steaks, yet similar to Brazilian.
6-Mandio or mandioca/yucca is a replacement for bread throughout the country outside of Asuncion.
7-Bori bori is ground corn meal balls in chicken soup.
8-Komanda or beans is normally red or black beans. Not to be confused with feijao.
