"Wander Downtown Upper Lake" Upper Lake Things to Do Tip by atufft

The town of slightly more than a thousand residents is very sleepy but has a nice archway entrance making it's 1856 birth, just off California route 20. There are few decent restaurants, hotels, and antique stores and not much more. The most distinctive structure is the Tallman Hotel. The original downtown from the 19th century burned to the ground in 1924, so there are few original buildings left and the newer ones are dreary stucco coated cinderblock. Nevertheless, some restoration work makes this place somewhat inviting as an off the beaten path place to visit. It's a good stop over for lunch between the coast near Mendocino/Fort Bragg and the Sacramento/Tahoe axis. This is a great stop for motorcyclists.
