Favorite thing: Between the 14th and 16th century the craft guilds of Sighisoara erected 14 towers to protect the town. Nine of these are still standing, with the Clock Tower (Tumul cu Ceas) being the most impressive one (see my "Things to Do" tips). Other noteable towers include:

The Cobblers' Tower (Turnul Cizmarilor), which houses a small observation tower. Its history dates back to the middle of the 16th century.

The richest guild in town built the Tailors' Tower (Turnul Croitorilor) in the 14th century. It was the second entrance gate to the citadel and used as a gunpowder deposit in the 17th century.

The history of the small Furrier’s Tower (Turnul Cojocarilor) dates back to the 15th century. In 1676 it was totally destoyed by a fire. The tower is located just next to the small Torle gate (Poarta Torle).

The Blacksmith Tower (Turnul Fierarilor ) was completed in 1631 on the spot of the former Barber’s Tower. It can be found in the neighbourhood of the Church of the Dominican Monastery.

One of Sighishoara's oldest buildings is the Ropemakers' Tower (Turnul Franghierilor), whose history dates back to the 13th century. It is located just between the Church on the Hill and the adjacent Saxon cemetery.
