The Marina Bay Sands casino and hotel is the latest icon to be added to the Singapore cityscape and on a clear, sunny day, a visit to the Skypark at the very top is a must. It's easily the best place to get a view of the Singapore skyline. HOWEVER, the $20/person charge to go up to the Skypark for just a view and nothing else is a rip-off aimed at the clueless tourists.

If you do plan on visiting, do it the way the locals do: go up by the Ku De Ta ground floor entrance located at the eastern entrance of the massive hotel. Ku De Ta is a bar located at the Skypark. If you tell them you are going to Ku De Ta, you will be issued a complimentary pass that takes you straight up to the Skypark where you can get the same view for no charge.

Of course, you can always order drinks and finger food there but be warned that, like all places which boast a good view, the prices are exorbitant (and the service nothing to write home about).

I believe in paying for what you get, but $20/person to go up a lift for a view and nothing else (not even a seat up there for you to rest) is obviously a rip-off. Don't fall into this tourist trap. Save your $$ for a nice meal instead.

Directions: Ku De Ta ground floor entrance is at the hotel's eastern end. In other words, if you are looking at the Marina Bay Sands hotel from the city, it's the left-most tower of the hotel.
