"Salzburg Cathedral" Dome and Cathedral Tip by slothtraveller

The Dom zu Salzburg is interesting place both inside and out.
At the entrance to the cathedral, there are four statues. These are of the apostles St Paul and St Peter and also the patron saints Virgil and Rupert. The green dome of the cathedral is an notable part of the Salzburg skyline and you get great views of the cathedral from Hohensalzburg Fortress, high above the city.
Inside the cathedral, classical music fans can see the font where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was baptised in 1756. The most striking features of the interior in my opinion are the painted ceiling panels that illustrate the life of Christ and other Biblical scenes. The view looking up into the cathedral dome from below is a sight to remember.
Although entry is technically free, there are people at the doors who collect donations and most visitors give something.
Between May and September, the cathedral is open daily from 8am-7pm except Sundays and holidays (1pm-7pm). In other months, the cathedral closes an hour or two earlier.
