"Ly Thai To monument." Ly Thai To Tip by pfsmalo

Ly Thai To, Hanoi: 6 reviews and 12 photos

The monument and hall were constructed in 1896 in honour of Le Loi, national hero of many battles and wars in the early 1400's, who became King Le Thai To. His statue is set in a pleasant garden with a small community hall behind. This was unfortunately closed on my passage. Le Thai To is directly part of the legend of the Restored Sword of Thuy Quan lake, to become Hoan Kiem, just outside the main gate. The legend being that Le Loi found a magic sword carved in Chinese characters. It was believed that heaven had given him the mission to fight the enemy. After the victory he was out boating on the lake when Saint Tim Quy took the sword back. Afterwards Thuy Quan lake was renamed Restored Sword lake (Hoan Kiem).

Address: 16 Le Thai To street, Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi.
Directions: On the west side of the lake, that is on the other side to the entrance to Ngoc Son temple, just across the road.
