There is a war memorial at the old city cemetery too. It stands at the mass grave of Soviet soldiers and officers who fell in the battles for the liberation of Rubizhne in January 1943.
It is not so well known as all other war memorials of the city since very few visitors ever go to the cemetery.
The monument represents two bas-reliefs of Soviet soldiers as a symbol of two generations: fathers and sons – who fought together at the fronts of the last world war.
This monument replaced the original one that had been built soon after the war, but disintegrated in the eighties of the last centuries.
You can see gray memorial plaques with the names of soldiers and officers who were buried in this mass grave.
Rest in peace, Liberators!+
