Castle Fischhorn is a castle in Bruck an der Grossglocknerstrasse in the Pinzgau region of Austria.
As we were heading along the Valley, we could see this Castle sitting on the hill, overlooking the Salzach Valley and the Oberpinzgau. We found our way to the Castle, so parked the Car and had a look around the outside. This Castle also has been a victim of fire, and parts were rebuilt in 1920.
There are several wings that branch off from a central keep, its the East Wing where the Castle Chapel is.
The Castle is believed to be first built around 1200, known then as Vischarn.
At one stage, the Nazis took over the Castle and the surrounding buildings making it a base for the SS as a part of Dachau concentration camp. It was captured by American soldiers in May 1945 and now is once again owned by the Gildemeister family.
In March 2007, workers doing excavation work, found the remains of an old Roman settlement believed to be from the first century BC.
It is thought, the settlement was a trading centre for goods transported through the Alps
Since 2007 the owners make parts of the castle open for events.
