Like many other churches this Ev.-Luth. church from 1891 was severely damaged in the bombing 1945. In this case the church was neither reconstructed nor torn down. Instead it participated in the "Notkirchen" program after the war for which Bauhaus architect Otto Bartnig designed simple buildings with pre-fabricated wooden structures. The remaining walls and the steeple of the church were stabilized, the pre-fabricated wooden walls with small windows and a low roof were added. 41 of those churches are still preserved all over Germany.

The interior is without ornaments, simple, basic. Since the altar was destroyed the Friedenskirche got a Neo-Gothic altar (created 1868) from the Sophienkirche in Dresden's old town (Sophienkirche's ruins were torn down by the communists later).
