"Go Downhill (Winter, Spring) - Ylläs" Finland Sports & Outdoors Tip by akkipaa

Ylläs downhill center is build between two villages: Ylläsjärvi and Äkäslompolo, both sides have own slopes and there is a connection between on the top of the Ylläs fell. "Ylläs on ykkönen" slogan means "Ylläs is the one" and definitely it is, at least if you think about lenght of the longest slope. it is 4000 meters meaning 2,4 miles. The fell itself is 719 counted from sea level.

There are about 60 slopes with almost 30 ski lifts and you can practise cross country skiing on more than 300 kilometers ski track (latu in Finnish) network.

You can reach the place by car, train (Kolari railway station) or by air (Kittilä airport).

The fell is mostly open area and it is quite weather sensitive, so be ready to change from hill to cross country skiing the wind can be heavy, foggy and wet also.

Equipment: Winter gear, weather and wind proof, warm layer clothing, downhill or cross country skiis and there is additional services to use like snowmobile and dog sleds.
