I realised Haldiram's restaurants in Kolkata are different from the Haldiram's restaurants in New Delhi when i looked at both their web sites.

Anyways, Haldiram's in Kolkata is very Kolkata specific and they serve those famous Bengali sweets and savouries one keeps hearing about.

There's a restaurant area where you can eat what you buy. They have implemented the self-service concept here. You have to pay at the cash counter, receive your receipt and token, go to the counter number mentioned in the token to collect your food. It is not as tedious as it sounds as it is very organized and there's no pushing and pulling. The service was pretty quick too.

Prices are very reasonable. A plate of dhokla and two roshogollas we paid INR 40.

Besides eating there, you can also buy and get sweets packaged to take home. :)

The place is clean. There's also a decent rest room. This is a great place for a quick snack when you are walking around near Victoria Memorial.

While you are there, don't forget to have Kolkata's famous mishti dhoi.

Nearest Metro: Rabindra Sadan

Favorite Dish: Roshogollas, dhoklas, chaats, mishti dhoi.

Address: Chowringhee Road
Comparison: less expensive than average
Directions: It is very close to Rabindra Sadan Metro station. On Chowringee Road junction.

They also have a bigger food court in Ballygunj Park.

Price: less than US$10
